Training for the Arts
Improve Your Financial Skills
These seminars offer an insight into the important aspects of finance which concern arts organisations. Each of the 3 half-day seminars will cover a different aspect of finance:
Tax Effective Giving                           VAT and the Arts                       Financial Understanding.

The courses will be led by Mahmood Reza, Chief Executive of Pro Active Resolutions. Mahmood has extensive experience of the cultural sector, has written on financial issues for Arts Professional, and is a member of an arts board of management.
Seminar Outlines
Tax Effective Giving  - Thursday 24th Feb - 10:30 to 13:00
 Venue - Irwin Mitchell, Birmingham
Charitable giving by the public is a major source of income for the charitable and voluntary sector, accounting for at least of a third of its total income. This seminar will present an outline of individual and corporate giving, gift aid and its application, charitable giving and VAT.
VAT and the Arts - Thursday 14th May – 14:00 to 16:30
Leicester venue (tbc)
Value added tax (VAT) can be a confusing tax, its underlying principle is meant to be simple but it tends to be very problematic in application. VAT impacts on arts organisations, and where applicable they are responsible for its operation, and it is important that the operation of this system is done accurately and effectively. This seminar will be of use and interest to a great number of people, including trustees, managers, artists, treasurers and funding bodies.

Financial Understanding - Wednesday 10th June – 10:30 – 13:00
Derby Venue (tbc)
Financial statements can provide a valuable insight into the performance of an organisation; this course is designed to equip people with the required skills and techniques to translate, evaluate and utilise financial statements.  The benefit will be seen in more effective management control, reporting and decision making.  No prior knowledge is required to gain the maximum benefit from this seminar.
Please note that all courses have a maximum capacity of 12 and we treat applications on a first come, first served basis.
